BREAKTHROUGH: SOVEREIGN AI INFRASTRUCTURE

We've solved the fundamental barrier to open-source AI adoption: the infrastructure complexity that keeps most developers locked into centralized API providers.

Conduit is an open-source framework for tuning, deploying, and building applications with open-source models. It gives developers type-safe, high-flexibility building blocks for composing AI systems—without locking into a single model or compute provider.

THE PROBLEM

Most developers don't know that running private, open-source AI is even possible. They think AI means ChatGPT.

The ones who do know face a brutal reality: deploying open-source models requires expertise in GPU allocation, container orchestration, runtime selection, and provider-specific configurations. A task that should take hours takes weeks. Most give up and default to API calls to centralized providers.

This is why "open-source AI" remains theoretical for most organizations. The models are open. The infrastructure to run them isn't.

The specific barriers:

  • Infrastructure Complexity: GPU allocation, memory calculation, container orchestration, scaling policies—each requiring specialized DevOps knowledge
  • Runtime Fragmentation: vLLM, TGI, Ollama, and dozens of other runtimes—each with different tradeoffs, configurations, and overhead profiles
  • No Type Safety: LLMs return unstructured strings, but applications need structured, validated data—forcing developers to write fragile parsing code
  • Operational Burden: Health checks, replica management, failure recovery, state persistence—the unglamorous work that makes production systems reliable

The result: enterprises rent their intelligence from providers who see their data, control their access, and can change terms at will.

OUR INNOVATION

Conduit unifies AI application development with infrastructure provisioning. Your application code defines what you need. Conduit handles everything else.

Type-safe AI applications. Define your input and output schemas in Python. Conduit compiles them into model-safe specifications and validates all payloads automatically. No more parsing errors in production. No more hoping the model returns valid JSON.

Automatic resource management. Specify which models you need. Conduit calculates GPU and memory requirements, validates resource compatibility, and provisions infrastructure accordingly. Add as many models and replicas as you want—Conduit determines what fits and throws an error if something doesn't.

Block-based architecture. Build AI pipelines by chaining high-level runtime blocks. Inference, HTTP requests, database operations, file system access—each is a composable building block that Conduit orchestrates.

Multi-model orchestration. Run multiple models simultaneously with intelligent batching, round-robin load balancing across replicas, and health-check readiness gates that prevent traffic from hitting unready nodes.

Compute-provider agnostic. Conduit abstracts all compute providers into a unified interface. Your code doesn't change when you switch providers. Optimized for Covenant's Secure Compute Cloud (coming 2026).

Two core innovations power Conduit:

→ LM Lite Runtime

Our multi-model, multi-GPU batching engine built directly into Conduit. LM Lite handles efficient batch processing, round-robin replica distribution, health-check readiness gates, and GPU-aware execution routing. It's optimized for running multiple smaller models on shared infrastructure—dramatically reducing the overhead of traditional runtimes.

→ Model Data Language (MDL)

Our type-safe communication layer for LLMs, built directly into Conduit. MDL transforms language models into structured, validated interfaces. Define your schemas in Python, and MDL compiles them into model-safe specifications, validates responses automatically, and guarantees type-safe outputs. No more string parsing. No more malformed JSON errors.

THE O.S. ABSTRACTION

We've been referring to Conduit as an AI operating system for a reason.

What Linux does:

  • • Provides standard interfaces to hardware
  • • Manages processes and resource allocation
  • • Abstracts file systems across storage devices

What Conduit does:

  • • Provides standard interfaces to GPUs and AI accelerators
  • • Manages model deployments and resource allocation
  • • Abstracts compute providers across cloud and on-prem infrastructure

Just as Linux made software portable across hardware—enabling the open-source revolution—Conduit makes AI applications portable across compute. Write once, deploy anywhere.

This is foundational infrastructure. Agent frameworks like LangChain and CrewAI handle what your AI does. Conduit handles where and how it runs. They're complementary layers in the stack.

VALIDATION

  • ✓ Automatic GPU and memory requirement calculation
  • ✓ Multi-model deployments with replica load balancing
  • ✓ Health-check readiness gates before traffic routing
  • ✓ Type-safe input/output with automatic validation
  • ✓ Block-based pipeline composition
  • ✓ Compute-provider agnostic architecture

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Conduit occupies a unique position in the AI infrastructure landscape.

Not an agent framework. Agent frameworks assume infrastructure exists. Conduit provides that infrastructure layer—the foundation that agent frameworks run on top of.

Not a managed inference service. Managed services offer convenience but create lock-in. Conduit gives you the same ease of use while maintaining full control. Switch compute providers by changing a configuration, not rewriting your application.

Not a DevOps toolkit. Kubernetes and MLOps tools require specialized expertise and separate configuration files. Conduit embeds infrastructure management directly into your application code. No separate YAML. No DevOps team required.

The goal: Make open-source AI as easy to use as ChatGPT, while maintaining complete sovereignty over your models, data, and compute.

OPEN SOURCE

Conduit is open-source and part of Covenant Labs' mission to make AI infrastructure accessible to everyone.
